I'm evaluating Parallels 6 and I'm impressed by how much better it is than VMWare in terms of running my older Windows games. If I could run all of my old Windows games in Parallels, I could ditch bootcamp for good, which would be so very convenient. Problem is, Pirates! doesn't seem to work properly. It comes tantalizingly close (*WAY* better than under Fusion). It's fast, and works in many ways, but in the sword fight scenes all the characters are totally dark, and much of the background is too. It just looks like somebody switched the lights off. I've tried virtually every permutation of Pirates' graphics settings that I can think of (shaders on or off, shadows on or off, etc), but nothing seems to fix the problem. Does anyone know of a way to get Pirates! to work? My setup is: early 2009 Mac Pro with the NV 120 card Snow Leopard Win XP Pro in Parallels 6 Basically, if I can run my favorite old 'doze games under Parallels, I'll buy Parallels. If I can't, I won't. Thanks for any suggestions... John ps -- I know that Pirates! is available for Mac, but I've heard it's buggy. If someone can tell me that it isn't buggy, then I could just buy it. But I'm skeptical.... so many Mac ports suck. It's sad. I'd love to buy more Mac games, but other than Valve, it seems like nobody gives a cr@p about either (1) getting it right the first time or (2) standing behind the product to fix the bugs. That's why I still play Civ4 under Bootcamp (although I see that Civ4 works very well under Parallels -- very cool)
