Slow virtual PC ? Try reducing the memory !

I have an Intel Mac Mini , with just 512Mb RAM . I have been using Parallels since it was first released and find that it works well , certainly well enough to run the few applications I can't get equivalents for the Mac .

I found that using it would slow my Mac down terribly , and the Windows 'PC' was also tremendously slow . I tried reducing the amount of RAM allocated to the Windows XP machine to 128Mb ( from 256Mb ) and the difference is incredible . Both machines now run much happier and snappier . I presume that so much virtual memory was being used by OS X it caused both machines to grind to a virtual halt . Now both run at very respectable speeds . Before I had to shut down the 'Windows PC' before even thinking about doing anything on the Mac as even putting Parallels in the Dock could take 2-3 minutes ( no exaggeration ) and opening an App on the Mac would then take an absolute age .

I suppose one answer might be to upgrade the RAM in the Mac , but now I don't think I'll bother !

Wow! Thanks for the tip...I have a MBP with only 512 mb of RAM and have the same issue...I do plan to upgrade the RAM for other reasons, but until then I will give your method a try.
