Just upgraded to Parallels Desktop 11 Pro and installed Windows 10 Home edition.
The screen resolution is stuck at 1024x768 (dropdown greyed out) and Microsoft Basic Display Drivers comes up for the video card (AMD Radeon R9 M395 2048 MB).

I checked to make sure parallels tools has been installed, which I believe it has. "Install Parallels Tools..." in the Action menu is greyed out and under Dev Settings it is checked to automatically update the tools.

How do I get the resolution to a more acceptable level and have the correct driver under use by the VM?
I already dowloaded and attempted to install the latest driver files from AMD

Also, I can no longer see the mac desktop when I start the VM even though I don't have use displays in full screen selected. Windows 10 comes up centered with the rest of the screen blacked out. I can access the dock and upper menus if I press control+alt but thats it.

Was not expecting to run into so many issues upgrading from the latest build of Parallels Desktop 10.

  2. Hello PrincetonW,
Try to install Parallels Tools manually and let us know if it makes any changes.

Thanks Pradeep, I was able to install Parallels Tools manually as shown in the link.
The screen resolution issue has been fixed and I can make it a separate window with the mac desktop visible.

The display driver has now changed to Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM), I tried showing it the file path to the installed AMD driver but it still comes back telling me that Parallels Display Adapter is the best driver software.
