Finally....after a week of I figured it out. A lot of you are having issues with parallel tools under 6.0 and Ubuntu 10.10. I offer no solution to that. I installed 10.10 i386 desktop and made sure I select "Apply updates" (and something about mpeg) during install. The install takes longer, but it's worked for me. Then I do the standard reboot at the end of install and end up with a 1024x768 desktop -- even though the entire install process off the ISO was done in 1920x1080. Then I do the PT install and reboot, still to no avail, stuck with all the eye candy in 1024x768......the problem is solved.
