In 2006 you posted a detailed but simple set of instructions to enable virtualization in those macs that had them switched off:

Well, it's 2009 now but those instructions still work! They may seem a little intimidating at first to non technical users like me, but they're actually pretty simple and clear.

They were a lot more helpful than the Parallels knowledgebase article about enabling virtualization:

    http://kb.parallels.com/en/5653

It says to update to the latest firmware, which is part of the story if you haven't got it, but isn't enough by itself. I had the latest firmware before starting, but virtualization was still disabled.

(By the way, there's a good Apple article on finding out if you have the latest firmware here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 .)

So thanks for helping get over what had been an annoying issue, and one that Apple strangely didn't seem to think was worth addressing. Thanks also to the creators of rEFIT, vmx-var-set.efi and those people who came up with the solution in the first place.
