When I run Windows 7 in a Mac windows (normal mode, not Coherence) and I browse to a Word 2010 file and double click the file testdoc.docx I get an error popup that says "The directory name is not valid." It shows the mapped path in the next line as "(Z:\...\testdoc.docx)". However, if I am on the Mac and browse in Finder to the same folder and double click on the same file, it opens in Word without any problem. Note, the Z: is mounted to my Mac disk (\\psf\Host). I don't have the this problem with other mounted devices like a NAS device. I've also attached a screen capture of the error message when I try to unmount (disconnect) the Z:\ mapped drive. I also have read/write permission from the drive through each of the folders in the path to the file I want to edit. Note, the browsing in Windows works OK it's just when Word tries to open the file that the error shows up. I suspect that the problem is a permissions problem somewhere but I can't figure out where. I found nothing in this forum nor via a Google search of the Web. If need be, I can regedit the Registry (I'm very familiar with doing this). I'm running Parallels Desktop 8 (8.0.18354) with Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1 and the latest updates.
