Transferring Applications

Discussion in 'Installation and Configuration of Parallels Desktop' started by Parallels User, Oct 26, 2009.

  1. I'm running Parallels with Windows XP Home Edition on Leopard. The whole reason I got XP was to use Office for school assignments (it requires XP). But my applications didn't transfer over to Parallels from my Mac. I enabled full sharing, but my applications still aren't available on my XP desktop in Parallels. I tried to use my IP address to view my files, but the address, which I copied from my system preferences, came back invalid somehow. So I have no idea how to get Microsoft Office to run in Parallels. I was going to run the setup disk through it, but of course I can't find my disk. How can I get the applications to transfer over?

Your situation is actually not quite clear yet.
First, in order to use Microsoft Office in Parallels you would have to install it in guest OS (just as on a real PC).

In order to open the files on the Mac side with the Microsoft Office you would need to share these files, associate them to correct application on Windows side (right-clickt -> "Open with") and make sure that SmartSelect is configured correcty for the Mac side.

Is one of these steps failing or there is some point that I have missed?
