I'm running Windows XP on a Boot Camp partition of a MacBook pro (1st generation) 2GB RAM and OS X 10.5.2. When I run the BC installation through Parallels, the transition between modes doesn't work - options on the preferences page are checked and I've tried various combinations with no affect. There is no animation between single window to full screen, or going to Coherence mode. The only time I see animation is when I first start Windows and it changes from the configuration page to Windows boot page.

I'm wondering if this is a Parallels/Leopard thing or something to do with Boot Camp?
I haven't checked if the transitions work in Boot Camp or not, will check and edit post.

Edit: My Bad. BootCamp doesn't have transitions (too early in the morning haven't had caffeine fix yet. ;) But there isn't any problem with graphics or 3D rendering.

    Thanks in advance

It's because BootCamp natively uses your Graphics card and therefore can take full advantage of it. Parallels can only virtualize your graphics card, so if you are using DirectX 9 the coverage will be spotty.

You can always try enabling/disabling shaders.

Thanks for the advice; I'll try that.

When I had both Parallels and Boot Camp's pre- OS X 10.5. versions. The animation worked fine on the MacBook Pro. Now, with OS X10.5.2 and Parallels 3.0 build 5584, they've gone astray.

I'm writing this from another computer with the same setup with BC. It's an iMac 24"; 2.8GHz C2D; 2GB RAM; ATI 2600. The Coherence animation is working but not switching between Full screen. I'll try playing round with the graphics settings and see what happens.

I have the exact same problem, in addition when I transition from osx to windows it always resizes my resolution of windows. I am relatively new to macs so in regards to the first reply, how would I go about changing the settings of my shaders? Also, is there a way so that I can constantly switch back and forward through this animation because i noticed that going from windows back to mac there is no animation. Thank you in advance

I was playing round with the settings the other day and today I noticed that transitions have now started to work when changing from window the full screen. The thing is, I can't figure out which one did the trick? I thought it was unchecking the Animate Coherence box on the Animation tab in Preferences, but after rechecking the box it still animates to full screen plus in Coherence. Maybe it took a restart of the MacBook With the box uncheked for the change to take hold, or unfreeze the transitions.

About playing with the shaders, I didn't. But I believe, Eru Ithildur meant to enable/disable on Parallels Configuration Editor. Make sure Windows is shutdown, then click Edit in Parallels menu bar at the top of your screen and select Virtual Machine. In the Configuration Editor, Click on Video from the list of resources on the left. The display Options will now show on the right and you can check Enable, (or uncheck to Disable) DirectX Shaders (experimental) option under DirectX Status.

But as I didn't change that setting I don't think it had anything to do with my problem. But it may help in someone else's case.

    Thanks anyway, Eru Ithildur.

About your display resolution, Is your resolution setting on Windows the same as on the mac side? What kind of display are you using?

Try setting the resolution the same on both OS, then restart Windows so it will save that setting. If you are using more than one display and want to put the Window's window on one of them, again, set Window's resolution to match that display then restart.
    See if that works.

One more thing if using multiple displays; in the View menu select Customize... and click Coherence tab. Here you can set Windows Taskbar to relocate automatically and choose options for the working area.

    How "Use multiple Displays" works:
Let's say, you're in Coherence mode and Use multiple Displays option is checked. The maximized window of any Microsoft app, like Excel, will span across both screens giving you a huge work area. This works best if you have two screens of the same size and they line up together. Screens of different sizes makes it difficult to work that way and the check box would be better left unchecked.

Hope this helps. Maybe a bit more than you asked for. ;)
