Hi, I am trying to install SUSE Enterprise Linux (SLES10SP2) in a virtual machine. I am running Mac OS 10.5.x and using Parallels Desktop 4.0.3846. I created a virtual machine using auto detection and the SLES10SP2 installation image (DVD iso image) 64 bit. I power the virtual machine on and it freezes at the installation splash screen and does not proceed. After an hour or so I gave up. Tried also with the 32-bit version. No luck. Installations of Fedora 10, 11, and SLES11 all proceed immediately and succeed with no problems. A bug report to Parallels went unheeded for a month and was cryptically closed. I have reopened it, but was wondering if anyone has had success with SLES10SP2 installs on PD 4.0.x for the Mac, and what steps they took. cheers, mark
Got a solution Support got back to me with a solution. The older SLES 10 distribution apparently requires the following advanced setting in the VM configuration. Set this under Configure>Hardware>CPU with advanced settings checkbox enabled: in the System flags box: kernel.real_mode_vtx=0 Install proceeds normally from there. Hope this is helpful to others
