I had a heck of time installing this to begin with on my MacPro dual core 2.66 GHz with 4 GB of RAM. XP would hang during the configuration of devises portion of the installation. I found that when I turned off all external drives, the installation went forward. Even though I received a message that said: setup.exe Application Error. The instruction at 0x77f5215c referenced memory at 0x4007b00. Memory could not be written. But, XP seemed to load fine. 1) My Kodak EasyShare 5300 printer is not recognized. Funny, it sees the printer if I disconnect the USB cable but disappears when it is plugged in. I have moved the cable everywhere from a hub to a PCI card, to directly into the Mac. Same result. I installed McAfee and activated the Kaspersky Internet Security. It was upon activation of the latter that things really started going wrong. Performance on the XP side is so slow that it reminds me of a Commodore 64. And worse yet, performance on the Mac side is seriously degraded. Getting one of the 2 internal DVD drives to respond tests patience. It seems that the Mac OS and XP fight over who has control of the DVD drives. Internet access is severely degraded. Everything is sluggish. This persists even when the virtual machine is off and I have quit out of Parallels. Issue a command and it can take over ten seconds for a response. Even just changing a file name. Nightmarish. Opening preferences takes some time now but when I was finally able to get to Network settings and close the two Parallel network connections (one is called "Guest") - by removing the DHCP setting and changing it to close - I get some relief. The DVDs still seem sluggish. I don't know what problem I will have restarting Parallels and XP since I have turned off their network connections. I suspect something. But right now, the sum total of all of these problems outweighs waiting to see some help on this forum. Right now, I just want my old, peppy machine back.
Hello Cygnusx3, I think you should start with repairing Windows Installation. This is supposed to fix at least some of the issues you are describing. Best regards, Xenos
