Trying to get Parallels to run for the first time

I bought Parallels Desktop for Mac from Office Depot 4 hours ago. I installed the program. It had a build from July of 2006. I found a link in the Parallels forum for a more recent build (the old build crashed my entire computer to the point of a hard reboot). The new version I have is Build 5584 dated Jan. 16, 2008. I am trying to use my activation code to activate my product and it says:
"The activation key cannot be used with the current version of the Parallels Desktop!".

Is there any fix for this?
