"Type of nework card" pop-up menu

(I searched and didn't find any answer in the forum, but sorry if this has been asked before)

In the Hardware section of the virtual machine's configuration, there's a list of hardware items that are virtualized. One of them is Network.

In Parallels 9, when choosing Network, there's a (new ?) pop-up menu labelled "Type of network card", where various cards are suggested.

How do I know which one is the best ? Currently, since I've had the same virtual machine for a long time, the network card chosen is "old version". It works, but I wonder if another card would be more efficient ? Until recently I had a MBP fall 2008. I just switched to a MBPr fall 2013 if that makes any difference. The virtualized machine runs Windows XP sp3.
