I installed the latest Ubuntu (12.10 'Quetzal') into a PD v.7 virtual machine and found it ran very, very slowly. You could watch each step of the magic "shrink" as an app went back to the launch bar, or expanded out of it. Unusably slow. Searching on "ubuntu 12 slow virtual" I found a ton of people complaining of this extreme slowness but all in the VirtualBox forums - none here at Parallels. So I installed PD8 replacing PD7, and the slow performance is almost, if not completely, fixed. I am creating this thread so that if anybody else has the problem (Ubuntu 12.10 slow in PD7) they may find this post and know what to do.
Don't agree Im a newbie to Parallels, just started a trial yesterday. I installed Windows 7 on parallels 8; it is fast and smooth. I installed Ubuntu 12.10 and there is a noticeable (and frustrating) lag with each mouse click/movement. I'm considering installing an earlier version of Ubuntu see if I have any more luck with say 11.10...
Hi there, Ubuntu 12 is not supported on Parallels Desktop 7, see page 114 of the user guide: http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v7/update3/docs/en/Parallels Desktop User's Guide.pdf And it should really work fine in Parallels Desktop 8. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Seems like you haven't installed Parallels Tools. Easy instructions can be found here: http://kb.parallels.com/en/113394
