Ubuntu 6 guest won't boot if more than 512mb assigned

Hello,

Running WinXP on Fujitsu/Siemens laptop with 1.5 Gb RAM. When I try to allocate more than 512B to the VM and start Ubuntu I get a hardware failure message and ubuntu stops booting.

Have actually re-installed once and allocated 1280mb to the swap partition thinking that might be the issue.

Any help appreciated.

 

This is a known issue with Parallels; there is rumoured to be an update "soon".

However, I have had more success running one of the Ubuntu desktop variants; Kubuntu/Xubuntu both installed and booted fine for me. If it's server you're running, there is another thread somewhere that I posted a link to a "solution", might be worth tracking it down.

 

Hi and thanks for the reply. Am actually running KDE but installed it after the fact. I am NOT running server but the desktop variety. Works fine for less than 512MB but as soon as I try to allocate more in the VM configuration the boot up fails.

We emulate i815 chipset and it seems that Ubuntu thinks that i815 with > 512M RAM onboard is incorrect configuration. This issue is under investigation.
