I installed ubuntu 8.10 and installed the ATI Radeon HD 2600 driver so that the video card would work. I am yet to install Parallels Tools but I didn't want to install them yet unless I needed them for compiz. Now to my understanding, compiz should work since there is OpenGL support right? Also I have heard you need your video card memory to be over 32 for compiz to work, so I made it 50.

Compiz still is not working or any of the desktop effects, just gives me the old average "Cannot Enable Desktop Effects" can someone help me with this, thx

Adding on, I just installed Parallels Tools, still not working...

And yes, I notice the thread title is missing the last L in Parallels, sorry

The ATI Radeon driver is irrelevant, under Parallels, Ubuntu doesn't communicate directly with the video card, for Ubuntu what it sees is the Parallels video card. The fact that Parallels says it supports OpenGL on Windows that doesn't mean it supports equally well on Linux. The fact of the matter is that Compiz doesn't yet work with Parallels.

    Thanks! Typo fixed.

PS: I've heard about some works on Compiz; though, I may not make anouncements.. Just want to say that feature is not abandoned
