I will try to clarify this question
Like jmaass I'm running the Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5608 German Version and I agree, again we've got to wait months till you fix major problems. Some people have to work with the guest systems, the flaws are costing time and money. A test of the version 2.0 of a certain competitor showed Ubuntu 8.04.1 runs smoothly on it. Sooner or later your customers will get tired of waiting ...
Really VM Fusion works with Ubuntu 804?
I'm tired of waiting... if VM Fusion works better with Ubuntu, I'm there. I think Parallels only cares about the Windows crowd anyway. Which is too bad. has anyone been posting in the Ubuntu forums?? I think we should be spreading the word. I will try to do my part in the Mac forums.
Did you use build 5624?

It was specially compiled to be compatible with Ubuntu 8.04 and other distros
Strange! It works fine for me... :-|
The language problem again
Hi John et.al.,
The file John points to in the latest post is the ENGLISH version. Unfortunately, users in Germany tend to use the GERMAN version, which apparently does not exist. The ENGLISH version is not compatible with a GERMAN license, so german users should not install it, IMHO.
John, please make sure that Parallels provides build 5624 in localized versions, especially German.
Furthermore, from the Ubuntu announcements mailing list:
This essentially means that Parallels is running out of options as far as Ubuntu is concerned. Ubuntu 7.04 will cease to be supported until October 19th, 2008. Ubuntu 7.10 will most likely follow suit soon. This leaves users running Ubuntu on Parallels with only Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, and that is not properly supported by Parallels.
Time to switch on the backburner, folks...
5624 fixed my screen resolution problem. I kept on looking for Ubuntu updates, but it kept telling me I had the latest version. I am a happy camper now!
do you use the German version of Parallels Desktop?
Sorry, no, just the English version.
Use 5624 build, problem is fixed in there
Doesn't work on Mandriva 2009
Started using Parallels 5608 against Mandriva 2009 (free, DVD version) which was an update of Mandriva 2008 Spring with a working screen. No go ... fails with the xorg1.4 error.
Had to turn on the "bridging" network to get some Internet in the VM to download updates etc. after the install.
Then I downloaded the 5624 version and reinstalled the parallel-tools. xorg 1.4 now is detected and the tools install OK - after a reboot the graphical login screen comes up. But the keyboard is disabled/doesn't work rendering the login manager useless (i.e. can't login).
Re-booting again in safe mode allows me to take out the user demon /etc/rc.X/S41prl... and continue to the login screen after issuing 'exit'. Now the login works, but the desktop screen that comes up is broken and shows only the welcome screen and otherwise nothing (black) after a quick flash of garbage pixels.
Bottomline: Parallels Desktop for MacOS is useless for my Linux distribution unless the driver situation improves.
Any further comments or other ideas are welcome!
Did you already try 5624?
Yup - that's how I got the tools to install in the first place (see my message).
Question: Why don't we get some source code for these tools and drivers? (like nvidia's drivers or vmwares) Then the smart folks called power-users can help you fix the problems. And since it is middleware anyways, no big loss in intellectual property.
