    Hi,

I am running a MacBook Pro core 2 duo 17".

the fullscreen resolution is 1680x1050 but I just can't seem to get ubuntu to run this.

i've tried using sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg with or without -phigh. i've also tried editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf myself and using someone elses version of the file that they claim is letting them go fullscreen at this resolution (though i believe its not exactly the same display, imac maybe).

when i use dpkg-reconfigure i get the splash/login screen at 1680x1050 but when i login the screen goes black and says checking file systems... and a bit fo other stuff. often it also offers to let me see the output of X and it definitely thinks the xorg.conf file is the problem.

has anyone solved this problem? there are a lot of threads suggeting many diferent solutions but none seem to work for me. also, noone else mentions that the splash is working fine (this is from grub rather than X??).

i had this problem in build 1970 and updated to 3036 beta today but the problem is still there. i have 1680x1050 added as a custom resolution in the parallels preferences.

im so happy with ubuntu in every other respect but this is severely limiting for what i want to do.

any help is much much appreciated.

edit: i never see the ubuntu loading type screen with the black background (in the bottom half) and the progress bars as it does each item. is this normal after ive installed? i see it from the livecd.
