Unable to activate license key without previous key?

Hi all I'm new to all of this and was trying out the trial version for university and I bought the cheapest key I could find on the site since I'm tight on money but found out that I couldn't activate it without a previous key? I don't have one since I only had the trial version. What can I do from here?
