    Hi,

Have been using Parallels since version 3 and purchased 6 when it first came out. Have been using it without error up until the last 2 updates (11828, 11990). I've had the same behavior for both.

    System info:
    Mac Pro
    OS X 10.6.5
2x 2.26 GHz Quad core xeons
    10GB ram
1x SSD for OS install and application installs
1x HDD which has media and where I had pointed parallels to store VM images.
When parallels is running I primarily use windows 7 on a bootcamp partition but also have ubuntu and other vms which were created in parallels.

    Problem description:
When these updates came out parallels was running and the updater prompted me to install a new version. The updater downloaded the latest version and mounted the image, the installer started and "checking for updates" was displayed after this closes the standard os x installer icon (disk with an arrow on it) appears in the dock but nothing more happens - no dialog box for any user input and no updates to parallels.

Manually mounting the image and starting the installer provides the same result.
Rebooting and starting the installer provides the same result.

In the console logs I see
    12/12/10 1:06:07 PM Installer[618] @(#)PROGRAM:Install PROJECT:Install-582.1
    12/12/10 1:06:07 PM Installer[618] @(#)PROGRAM:Installer PROJECT:Installer-430.1
    12/12/10 1:06:07 PM Installer[618] Hardware: MacPro4,1 @ 2.26 GHz (x 16), 10240 MB RAM
    12/12/10 1:06:07 PM Installer[618] Running OS Build: Mac OS X 10.6.5 (10H574)

    and then nothing else.

Thinking it might be an upgrade issue I ran the parallels uninstaller and removed parallels and have attempted an install but I get the same issue (and not cause I have removed parallels I cant run windows at all).

Googling and looking on the forums hasn't turned up much so any ideas on solving or further debugging this issue would be helpful.

I'm off to try and find an older version 6 dmg to see if I can reinstall that.

Doesnt seem to be a parallels issue

Ok so after playing round with this some more I couldn't get older versions of 6 or version 5 to install. Then checking other applications I also could NOT install xcode or Flip4Mac so this appears to be a general issue where mpkg installers do not run on my system.

I did however manage to install the latest parallels 6 via the command line with the command
sudo installer -pkg /Volumes/path/to/parallels/installer.mpkg -target /

so the issue must just be running interactively in a gui. I also tried enabling guest login and trying to install something using that account and had the same issues so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my profile.

While this is no longer a parallels issue if anyone has any ideas on whats causing this it would be greatly appreciated.
