Mac: 3.4 GHz i7, 32GB ram, OSX 10.8.5 Parallels: Parallels Desktop 10 for mac 10.2.1 (29006) Windows: XP Everything was working perfectly until Parallels prompted me to update Parallels Tools last week. I followed all the prompts, then noticed Parallels would give me an occasional kernel panic and my mac would restart. Now I am unable to run my virtual machine. I get the windows splash screen, which takes me to the option to start in safe mode. If I try to start in safe mode, I get a black screen. If I try to start with the last known good configuration, I get a black screen. Parallels desktop says the virtual machine is running, but the window is just black with no activity. No logon screen to my XP OS, etc. I have tried Disk Utilities>Repair Permissions on my HDD where parallels is installed, no luck. I get warning: SUI File "System/Library/CoreServices/Remote...S/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired. I can't tell if this is related to my problem. Any help or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin
I've tried three times, following the steps exactly. Every time I get to step 9 and close the configuration of my new virtual machine, the only button available says "continue." This is not allowing me to install the new OS, it is immediately trying to boot off the HDD of my old virtual machine, which does not work. I get the "Windows did not close down properly" message, with an option to boot into safe mode, and all attempts to boot just hang (normal, safe mode, etc). Maybe my old windows installation is corrupt or something. Is there a way to install a new OS from scratch, then access the data on my old virtual machine as an external drive? Or, is there a way to look at the files in the virtual HDD (browse it like an external drive) from the Mac OS, and just pull off what I need to add to the new virtual machine later? Thanks, Kevin
Another option would be to try to intercept the boot process on my original virtual machine to try and repair/reinstall the OS. Is there a way to do that?
So I just created a new virtual machine with a fresh install of Windows XP Home. All went normal until Windows Parallels tools installation. After Windows Parallels tools installed, I got a blue screen with the following message: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: " Then nothing follows. Is it possible that the new version of Windows Parallels Tools is no longer compatible with Windows XP Home? Thank you, Kevin
