Upgrade effect on Trackpad

I have just upgraded to Parallels 5 after upgrading to snow leapord and finding that I couldn't run the older version of parallels.

Now my trackpad is a mess and it is making my mac virtually non functional even when not running parallels.

Has any one encountered this problem and can it be corrected or do I just ask for my money back and dump it and hope that fixes the problem (it has already cost me two days work)
