I have Desktop v3 for Mac installed w/ an XP VM. I purchased Desktop v5 for Mac at a box store. The v5 packaging had a $40 total mail in rebate for upgrades. The v5 installation upgrade section (pg 22) only refers to downloading the upgrade off the Parallels site and receiving the upgrade activation key by email. I have not broken the CD seal. Q: Can I use the Desktop v5 installation disk and activation key to easily UPGRADE my Desktop v3 (i.e., without needing to rebuild the VM)? Or should I return the product and purchase an upgrade on line? Thanks in advance. Erik
If you upgrade Parallels Desktop 5 you won't destroy your VM, ie you won't have to rebuild it. All you'll need to do is update the tools (and usually you'll be prompted by the VM on the first boot after launching PD 5). As regards a key, I'm not sure whether your box came with a key for Parallels Desktop 5 or not? If it didn't, get a key first. If it did, you're fine.
