I have installed parallels to be able to run some old software for a sewing machine. The only non OEM sotware I had was Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 which I successfully installed. In order to activate drivers for a USB to 9 pin com port, I need to install Windows Service Packs 1 & 2..(SP1 then SP2). These are available as 1.44 floppy disks only.

I have converted these to individual floppy disk images and been able to get disk 1 to load and boot. I then have a DOS installation screen that ask me to insert disk 2 of 6 disks into drive A:.
I then go to the Parallels hardware utility and change the disk 1 Floppy disk image to the Disk 2 disk image and connect it as a connected floppy Disk.

Then back to the DOS window and hit enter to continue with disk 2 and I get the following message:
"A file or device required for the operation of Floppy Disk 1 does not exist or is being used by another process or you have no permission to access it. The Virtual machine will continue running, but the device will be disconnected."

I have also tried to add back the floppy disk image using the Devices tab in Parallels to rinstate disk 2 image, but I get the same error message.

Help, please, does anyone have some ideas?

    1. The latest SP is 3, and it's generally advised to update XP to SP3.
    2. SPs are cumulative, you can upgrade straight to SP3.
