1. Install the upgrade. - no hitches, no glitches. smooth. - upon launching Windows XP Pro, after the boot process completed, the Parallels Tools Wizard popped up, and walked through the Parallels Tools installation process. - Linux-Ubuntu 7.10 was a mite problematic, but booting in recovery mode saved the day. If possible, Ubuntu runs even faster. A question though: after completing the boot process (recovery mode) a CD icon showed on the Desktop, named Parallels Tools, and contained three items: a shell script 'parallels-tools.run, another shell script prl-tools.uninstall.sh', and a text file containing 'tools version 3.0.5582.0). I ran in Ubuntu's Terminal the first item 'sh /media/cdrom0/parallels-tools.run'. After that, I went to the Parallels Menu bar (cmd+option), and instead of 'Install Parallels Tools', there was an option "Cancel Parallels Tools Installation'. I guess it means that Parallels tools has been installed in Ubuntu? Although it seems pretty obvious, I'd appreciate feedback of experienced Linux users. 2. Improvements: - switching between host and guests (Windows XP Pro, Linux-Ubuntu 7.10) is so fast that it is immediate, no hangs up, just transparent. - MacOSX is not affected by the fact that one of the guest virtual machines (especially Windows XP Pro) is hoarding part of the available RAM. - Windows XP Pro runs like if this was a PC box (God forbid) instead of a Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo. I'd dare say it runs better than on a PC only box (or laptop). To sum up: build 5582 - Parallels.com WAY TO GO! And thanks. Charly Macbook 13" White Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GHz, 2GB RAM. MacOS 10.5.1
I agree. Windows XP Pro is much faster after the update. I'm going to give the enhanced DirectX support a test today by installing UT 2004. ;-) I tried after the upgrade to 3.0, but was a little disappointed in the graphics rendering.
