Upgrading to Parallels 3.0 & activation codes

I bought Parallels in Aug. 2006 & installed it in Sept 2006. Had trouble with it & uninstalled it. Have since installed Leopard & Boot Camp. This week purchased Parallels 3.0 upgrade. I installed 3.0 but when I go to activate it, it expects to find my original version. I have the two activation codes but neither one works at this time in the 3.0 version. I still have the dmg to install & activate the original software but it recognizes a newer version already installed. Will I need to uninstall 3.0, install & activate the original version, then install & activate 3.0? I didn't install the original because I had read it is not for Leopard. Please advise.
