UPS control in W2K--Mac OSX won't allow!

Since APC's PowerChute software (their UPS control software) for Windows is vastly more functional than their Mac version, my hope was to use Windows 2000 in Parallels to connect to the UPS via the USB interface. But I can't! Mac OSX "steals" the USB connection since it has built-in support for UPS devices, and when I try to access the connected device in W2K/Parallels I get the infamous "Device is busy, wait 5 seconds..." or whatever message. I can't find a way to tell Mac OS X to ignore the device so Parallels can grab it. Of course I have no problems doing this via BootCamp/XP since their is no competition between OS's, but I don't want BootCamp.

    Any suggestions? TIA.
