Problem: Garmin GPS cannot be connected to virtual machine using USB Data: Mac OS X 10.5.4, Parallels Build # 5608, iMac 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, RAM: 2 GB, 500 GB HDD, BootCamp configuration: NO, upgrade from a BETA: yes, Parallels Tools installed: YES With what Build did the problem start: just now - newer tried before with GPS Anything you have tried to get things working: I followed advice as in article "USB Devices Being Used by Another Process" http://kb.parallels.com/en/5053 (advices A and B) without success. It always returned "USB Devices Being Used by Another Process" message back. When Connection option was set to Ask me what to do, it was a loop: first it asked, I agreed to connect, it said ...used by another process..., I confirmed, it asked again.... and so on Additionally I tried to switch USB flashdisk between OS X and Win and back using Devices - USB in Parallels Desktop menu bar (it worked) and iSight camera (it did not work - no tick sign on the side). Error message: USB Devices Being Used by Another Process Regards, Roch
Try following unplug all USB devices on Mac OS (you can do this also on Mac without parallels) connect Garmin perform in Terminal sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext/ if it fails you cannot do something if succeed do the same on Mac and it will connect to Parallels Try also set Garmin mode not to storage device (if it has)
"Try following unplug all USB devices on Mac OS (you can do this also on Mac without parallels) connect Garmin" Just to be sure: - what about unplugging USB keyboard and mouse??? - what interface mode should I connect Garmin at this moment - "GARMIN" or as "USB mass storage"? (my problem happened when interface was set to "Garmin format", it never was connected as USB mass storage device to Mac)
- what about unplugging USB keyboard and mouse??? you can leave them - what interface mode should I connect Garmin at this moment - "GARMIN" or as "USB mass storage"? Garmin Just please check it on Mac without Parallels to make sure that this is not Parallels fault
- GPS connected to Mac without Parallels: accesible to Mac application - kextunload: unload kext /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext/ failed - connected to Mac + Parallels + Windows: "USB device you are trying to connect to the virtual machine is being used by another application...." :-( Regards, Roch
Yes, it is failed kextunload: unload kext /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext/ failed it should return success in order Parallels will be able to catch it. In current situation we cannot do anything as MacOS failed to release USB device
