I am currently running the latest version of Parallels Desktop on my 14" iBook and have Windows XP SP2 running under it. However, when I plug in a USB device I get a message from Parallels asking if it should be connected to the virtual machine to which I say "yes". The Windows virtual machine however never sees it. A quick look at the device manager in Windows shows that there is no USB driver installed (has a yellow question mark). Any ideas on how this might be remedied?

    Hello,

    you can try this way:
    1. Start Windows, go to "Start" - "Control Panel" - "System" - "Device Manager" and uninstall all devices under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" (right-click on the devices).
    2. Shut down your VM.
    3. In the VM Configuration Editor delete the "USB Controller" and start Windows again.
    4. Wait 5-10 minutes until Windows finishes the driver setup.
    5. Shut down Windows.
    6. Add "USB Controller" back to your VM configuration and start Windows again.

If you still have this problem, write me back please.

    Best regards,
    Stacey

    HI,

i´m having some problem, after upgrading to build 3214 (Parallels for MAC).
When starting win XP i get dialog to install "USB (universal serial bus) Controller",
but i don´t know which driver to install.
Paralells Tools are reinstalled (twice) after upgrade. Actually i see in the device manager under "USB-Controller"
    - Standard PCI to USB universal Hostcontroller
    - USB-Root-Hub

what to do ? followed your mentioned steps. same problem.
if i click on the usb logo of the parallels window frame i get these options:
"apple extended usb keyboard, apple optical mouse, ir reciever, apple wireless"
bot not apple iSight Camera like before upgrade - maybe that helps.

    Thanks in advance.
If that would work and i can use the iSight i´m it will be perfect,
nevertheless i´m totally impressed by your software.

    Best Regards
    Marcus

    Hello,
i followed the mentioned steps in your solution,
but after i did step 4 "Choose USB from the Devices menu and select Built-In iSight."
nothing happens on my Windos XP guest OS.

I think there is a problem, not (direct) related to the iSight as he asks me to install a driver "USB (universal serial bus) Controller" and the iSight driver doesn´t work for it.

    Please advise.
    Best regards
    Marcus
