I need to use a USB modem (D-Link, DU-562M) on my MacBook, but having problems getting it to talk to the computer. There is no Mac driver, so I'm trying to run it within Parallels. My Windows XP VM recognizes the modem, and I can successfully install the driver that came with the CD. There is, however, some sort of hardware conflict that prevents the OS from dialing out with the modem. If I try to start a connection using the modem, I get this error message: "Opening port... Error 633: The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly" When I go to the modem properties and try to "Query Modem" (under the Diagnostics tab) I get this error message: "The port that the modem is attached to could not be opened. This may be the result of a hardware conflict. Check the device manager to verify all devices are functional." I've tried disconnecting myself from the internet (and turning off airport) on the Mac side of things, I've tried disabling the LAN connection within Windows that connects to my Mac, nothing works. The device manager seems to think all is well. It sees the device properly, it knows when I plug/unplug it. COM3 is the port being used (for the modem), but I tried changing to various other ports, and nothing helped. Oh, and I've read through what I can find on this forum, and this thread (http://forums.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=3200), while similar, isn't exactly the same - more like trying to get the Apple USB modem working in Windows. I'd really love any ideas or suggestions! (PS: To the Parallels team, I can't praise you enough - I've been working full time for the last month in Windows on my MacBook, and the integration has been seamless)
