My network card on my MacBook has died. As a temporary fix until I can get a new computer I had to resort to getting a USB wi-fi dongle, which only has Windows drivers, which works just fine via Parallels 11 on a Windows 10 guest. However, it is really irritating to have to keep switching over to Windows 10 to get to the Internet access, especially hate having to deal with email via the Windows side of things. My Mac is running El Capitan.

I've tried the instructions listed at http://kb.parallels.com/en/5557 to get it to work, but the instructions don't exactly match the Parallels 11 and Windows 10 settings I see, and thus I don't think I am getting it set up right with the IP, maybe because our modem router uses the IP (192.168.0.1) that the instructions say to assign and I am therefore getting an error saying there is another device using that IP. I tried then assigning a different IP in the range to avoid the conflict, something higher up where I know there wouldn't be anything at home conflicting. However, on the Mac host side, Parallels Host-Only #1 does not hold the IP and always reverts to a 10 type instead of the 192 that I had manually entered.

Can someone with a little more experience/expertise please explain to me what I need to do to get this to work? I desperately need this to work until the house we have on the market manages to sell (hopefully by summer), and I can then afford a new computer.

    Hello Angela1,
Install the USB Wi-Fi dongle software on Mac connect to the internet and changed Windows virtual machine setting to shared mode. To use the Shared networking mode, go to your virtual machine's Configuration > Hardware > Network and choose Shared Network. Also, refer to http://kb.parallels.com/4948 to know more.
