Using Crystal Reports with 2X App Server

If you want to run Crystal Runtime version 11 onwards on the same server as 2X Application Server with Web Portal, DON'T!

Both 2X & Business Objects have screwed up big time and neither are admitting it.

Some open source dll's (one being libeary32.dll, OpenSSL Shared Library) have been modified by both companies to fit their requirements. Both comanies have decided that the best place to put this is Windows\SYSTEM32.

Installing 2X after installing Crystal Runtime will not over right the libeary32.dll. But for the 2X Web Portal to display, the modified file by Business Objects causes the 2X Portal to Crash.

Installing Crystal Runtime after installing 2X the file is over writen by the Crystal Installer. This again causes the 2X Web Portal to crash

    See previous thread: http://www.2x.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3193

I have posted the previous thread on Business Objects forum as well. I will be posting this thread on their forum. Very disappointed that nobody from either company gives a rats arse that they have caused problems.

CHANGES TO OPEN SOURCE DLL'S MEANS YOU DON'T PUT THAT DLL INTO A WINDOWS FOLDER, YOU PUT IT IN YOU OWN APPLICATIONS FOLDER. YOU STUPID MUPPETS.

Can you tell that I am not happy

I take it that 2X staff don't monitor their own forum.

Must I move back to Citrix which is hard to configure, takes up more time to manage AND IS FAR MORE RELIABLE

    Hi,
First of all thanks for reporting the issue.
We looked into it and are taking action.

    Just two points ..
    a) We DO go through the forum and see when there are issues. We do not necessarily have a statement to offer at a given time. For your info our development team are already looking at the issue and when there will be developments we will post in the change logs.

    b) The forum is a public area for customers to share experiences not an official Support area. So you might have misinterpreted the meaning of a forum take a peek: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum.

We shall let you know when the issue is resolved through our change logs. (and the forum will tell you when there is another build.) Soon..

    Thanks

Thanks for responding. A simple response when I posted the original message along the lines of 'we will look into it' would have shut me up :)

When I sent the original problem to your support, before know what the cause was, the only reponses I was getting back was to put the latest version of 2X up. This shouldn't be the standard response, which always seems to be the case whenever I post a message to 2X Support.

The solution that I have put into place to get this working is to take a copy of the libeary32.dll prior to running the Crystal Runtime installation. Then put a copy of the libeary32.dll now in SYSTEM32 in Crystal's \bin folder. Copy the previous libeary32.dll back, this being the one installed during the 2X installation.

The real fix to the issue really is for both 2X and Business Objects to put this libeary32.dll into your own folder structure.

If you want to see what Business Objects have changed regarding this file to mess up the 2X Web Portal, I can send you a copy and you can watch you Portal go bang!
