I had problems closing my MAC OS. When I rebooted and went to Parallels, it wants to install a new virtual machine. I can find the .hdd file with spotlight, but I can't get Parallels to recognize it.

I also lost my Mail settings too.

go to the folder that the hdd file is on, and double click it. What has happened is paralles has lost the information (path) on where to find the virtual machine (hdd file). double clicking hte hdd file will re inform parallels where to find the file. you should only need to do this once

Thanks for the help. I did try that, but no luck. It looks like the hdd file is corrupted. It did say that it was a problem with the guest OS (XP). If I reinstall XP, will it recognize any of the programs that are in my Library?

    Hello,

Do you see the error message "Hdd file is missing, corrupted, or used by other application" ?

If so try this workaround: http://kb.parallels.com/entry/28/527/

    Best regards,
    John

Thanks much. That was the fix. The instructions worked fine until it was time to start Parallels, but I managed to have Parallels find the new windows.hdd file. After that, it started up just fine.
