When I try to start Parallels 4.0, it tells me that virtual machine needs to converted. I hit "Back Up and Convert." Then I get a message that says "Failed to configure the Boot Camp partition's hard disk. A disk configuration error has occurred. Make sure that you have read/write permissions for the disk."

    So now what?

When trying to find an answer on this, I see that a lot of people are having other issues with 4.0 and I'm wondering if I should even bother with it. Where can I find the last build of 3.0? My version of 3.0 is so old, which is why I was upgrading any way.

Please make sure build is 3540, if not download it from http://parallels.com
after that just use solution below, or create new Boot Camp VM
    - Hard disk cannot use the Boot Camp partition after the upgrade - fixed.
Note: If this error occurs in the release version of Parallels Desktop 4.0, open the virtual machine configuration, select Hard Disk 1 in left pane and click OK.

Tried creating a new virtual machine, still getting the exact same error that I posted earlier. It won't convert the HD.
Your "solution" makes no sense to me. Open what virtual machine configuration, and select the hard disk1 on WHAT left pane?!

Please just tell me how I can get Parallels 3.0 back.

    1. Try to Boot in Boot Camp natively and uninstall Parallels Tools from Add/Remove Programs
    2. Disable any antiviral software.
    3. Boot into Mac OS and try to create the virtual machine based on Boot Camp as it is described here:

    http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/23112.htm

If the issue still persists, please clarify what Hard disk you have in your Mac (is it a SSD disk or not)
Also it is better to create a ticket in our queue and provide us with your Report ID (Help->Report a problem)
