Yesterday I noticed that my MacBook Pro seemed to be running hotter than usual, with a much louder fan and shorter battery life. I just realized that I had left Vista running in Parallels, something I don't usually do (in fact I seldom use Windows except for the occasional demo). Even though Vista was only running its screen saver, it seemed to be sucking quite a bit of power. Since I shut it down, already my machine seems noticeably cooler and quieter. (I suppose part of the explanation could be that with Vista's RAM deallocated, my Mac apps are doing less disk swapping—though I have 4GB of RAM and only a few apps running.) Does this make sense? Anybody else seen it?
