My daughter has an Intel iMac running Parallels (not upgraded to v 5 yet) hosting Vista. Yesterday her VM wouldn't startup. She also tried to come up in safe mode but it always seemed to stop at the same place. See the attached png picture of the stopping point. It would just stay like that and proceed no further, even after waiting a long time. Is there a way to do a re-install of Vista, rather than a clean install? She has files that were saved in folders within the VM that she doesn't want to lose. Any files that Vista saved in Mac folders are fine, but she would just like to not lose the files that were saved within the VM. Snapshots had not been enabled, so there are no snapshots, either. I tried to help over the phone, but unsuccessfully - also, I'm using 5.0.9310 with some slight differences in the Configure, etc. - so we didn't have exactly the same screens on our two Macs. What options does she have, either to correct the Vista bootup or to recover the files?
    Thank you,

I'd suggest that she open the VM's hard disk using Parallels Mounter (navigate to where the VM resides, right click on the VM, open with "Parallels mounter") and salvage any files that she wants to continue to use. Parallels Mounter mounts the VM's hard disks on the Mac's desktop just like another hard drive.

I also suggest you send a trouble report to Parallels (Help -> Report a problem).

Was able to save word files under text file. I only had a few files, so there wasn't much save on VM. Thank you.
