    Hi there,

After recently running Windows Update using 5582 and being asked to restart, I am getting a blue screen during boot up followed by a restart, etc, etc.
Choosing safe mode on bootup reveals that the system is crashing after loading Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys. I have attached a screenshot of the blue screen.
I have also tried installing using the existing disk image (p67 of the manual) but I get exactly the same problem.

Is there anyway to recover files - in particular I am after the *.pst files from the Outlook folder.

    Cheers.

    Hello RustyBear,

Please make a backup of your virtual machine .hdd file (you can make a copy of it and save on any data storage).

Right click the .hdd file and choose Open with -> Parallels mounter. The contents of your virtual hard disk will be mounted on the Mac desktop and you will be able to access any file.

    Repair Vista installation:

    1. Insert Windows installation CD into the Mac.
    2. Start your virtual machine and click into the Parallels window.
    3. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, click inside the screen and press any key to start your computer from the Windows Vista CD.
    4. Click Repair your computer.
    5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
    6. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair to start the repair process.
    7. When the repair process is complete, click Finish.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    Hi Xenos,
Thanks for the info - I can access the drive now using Parallels Mounter. However, it states that I do not have privileges to access the folders that have my information in. Is there a way to access these folders?
Also, I boot up from the original Windows Vista DVD but it then says "Windows is Loading Files..." with a white progress bar. Once this is complete, it goes into the blue screen again and I have to restart? Any ideas?

    Kind regards.

    Hello RustyBear,

Try the following: disable such devices as Floppy, Sound, Parallel Port, USB in Configuration Editor. Just uncheck "Enabled" at "Device status". Save the changes and start the Guest OS.

    Best regards,

Thanks for the suggestion. However, there is no change with the image - it still blue screens on bootup (even when booting from the Vista DVD).
I think the best way to get my files is to find a way to access ALL folders when the image is mounted using the parallels mounter - do you know how I can do this? (Its the Application Data folder I want to access under the Administrator folder - I can see all of Administrators' documents, just not the application data folder)

Of course if you have another idea to try and get the image going, I'll be glad to try it!
    Kind regards.

    Hello RustyBear,

Are you sure you can not see the Application Data folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator?

Another way to get access to the folders on your virtual disk is to create a new VM and add the old .hdd as a second Hard Drive in Configuration Editor. You will be able to open the folders from the Guest OS of the new VM.

    Best regards,
    Xenos
