Hello, I've installed Vista SP1 Ultimate addition before adding Parallels. I was able to boot between them both no problem. In addition, I have a third FAT partition that can be used by both at anytime to store Data. I installed Parallels and here's what has happened: 1. I can access Vista via Parallels, but when I boot into Vista, the boot bluescreens quickly then reboots and then asks me if I want to do Safe mode among other things. I've gone so far as to repair the Vista installation, but once I use Parallels again, I can't boot into my Vista partition natively anymore. I can only go through Parallels. I used the special settings recommended multiple partition bootcamp installs and that helped get Parallels going, but it messed up my native Vista SP1 start up sequence. 2. When I use the Parallels to access Vista. It unmounts the partition from my Mac desktop and I can't see it anymore until I reboot. If anyone knows what is going on or has any ideas. Please pass them along.
2 steps to perform: 1. Permissions repair in Mac OS 2. download build 5604 following link bellow: http://download.parallels.com/v3/en/GA/Parallels-Desktop-5604-Mac-en.dmg and reinstall Parallels Desktop as described in kb http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790 If problem is still there, I will ask additional information
Permission repair is usually done via the 'Disk Utility' app, select your Mac OS X partition from the left panel and click on the button that says 'Repair Disk Permissions' from the right pane.
I'm not the original poster, but I'm having a similar problem. Vista was actually booting okay in both Parallels and Boot Camp for a while, but after upgrading Parallels, I'm now getting a blue screen when I try booting in Boot Camp. I went through the steps John@Parallels described above but it's still not working. And after completing the steps, chkdsk ran for about an hour repairing files and directories. After it finished up, I'm exactly where I left off - Vista works fine in Parallels but not Boot Camp. I'm running Parallels Desktop 5608. Any ideas what could be happening? Thanks, Jeff
And one last note... whenever I shut down Vista in Parallels I get this message after it completes: Boot Camp Windows XP was shut down abnormally while it was used via Parallels Desktop. Please boot into Boot Camp via Parallels Desktop once again and shut down Windows XP normally. I'm shutting it down normally and it appears to go through the shutdown process but this keeps popping up. Thanks again for any tips or suggestions.
Click Clear Button in Configuration Editor-Hard Disk 1 -Advanced About message: we are aware about problem and it is under investigation
Thanks for the response. I tried what you suggested but I'm still seeing the same blue screen in Boot Camp. In fact, now I can't even log into Vista on Parallels because it's asking for my product key which I have to go track down.
Windows repair in Boot Camp for Vista, and yes after that you need to reinstall Parallels Tools and activate Windows
