Hey All. Despite Vonage's non support for OSX for the V-Phone, I decided to give it a try anyway using Parallels Desktop on my new 20" IMac (4GB RAM) with a virtual instance of Windows 2003 Server. First of all, I used Transporter to more or less seamlessly transfer my PC laptop 2003 server OS over to my IMac, which was simply an awesome experience (no OS re-install, no application re-setup? Am I dreaming, lol) Once that was done, then I needed to figure out why my V-Phone sound kept breaking up. Here's what I did to resolve the problem. 1) I kept Mac sound settings at the defaults (i.e. play sounds via built-in speakers, and record via built-in mic), rather than make my Plantronics headset the default speaker and mic, which I did during troubleshooting 2) Then, rather than setting my plantronics headset in the virtual Windows V-Phone settings, I set the sound settings for speaker and mic in the virtual machine config to my Plantronics headset. 3) I also chose Bridged networking in the virtual machine networking config, using ethernet-0 for the virtual machine instead of my airport wireless connection on ethernet-1. Today I've had a few conversations with the same phone quality as on my PC laptop, one for over an hour. Had 2 dropped calls, but then again, on my PC laptop I have dropped calls from time-to-time, so all-in-all I am totally psyched and hope you will be too when you get your v-phone working "in" OSX ;--) Overall just amazed with Parallels -- what an awesome application!
I can honestly say that switching from Windows to Apple, and using Parallels for my Windows-necessary tasks, has changed my life for the better ;--) It's unbelievable, what is going on here? I have 2 OSs in 1, and can toggle back and forth between the 2 with zero lag time. I think that Parallels Windows is running better than on my 2GB RAM Sony Vaio VGN-A690 laptop. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Hah, hah, I am so giddy it's hard to sleep, lol ;--)
