    Hello everybody,

i have a big problem on my MacBook Pro Retina and my vSphere Client inside my Parallels Windows 8. Just before: All other inside my VM is working fine! When i connect to an ESX Server and get into the console of it i can use my keyboard, but my mouse seems to get an permanent "Ctrl" + "Alt". It changes all the time from inside to outside the VM. I cannot click anything inside the console (the cursor changes the appearance between the normal arrow and the OSX hand symbol). Below in the status line "Press Ctrl+Alt" is flickering all the time during i drive with the mouse around the VM Console window.

So vSphere Client is my most used working tool i think about an boot camp installation, but i know this should work also.

Maybe some have an idea :) The thing with releasing mouse&keyboard works (now only with keyboard of course…)

It has something to do with retina - i recognized the top left corner is widely normal usable. If i come with the mouse to far right or below it flickers - seems an resolution problem between vsphere console -> parallels -> retina...

    Thanks, Stefan

    please fix this asap!!

    Same issue here!
I'm using the parallels preview at the moment and it'd be useless if it didn't work! Please fix this!

    thx

Same issue as well. I am running Parallels 8.0.18354 and Windows 7 SP1 64bit on Mac OS 10.8.2. However when I am plugged into my external display running at 2560 x 1440, the condition is not present and the vSphere console window works as it should. While using the MBP's display my mouse clicks are active below and to the right of where I actually clicked.

I had the same problem and here was my fix:

Both Parallels and the vSphere console were using Ctrl + Alt to release the mouse. However, Parallels wins. So, you click in the vSphere console window and your mouse is now stuck in the console window. Pressing Ctrl+Alt releases the mouse from the Parallels VM, not the vSphere console. Open up the Parallels preferences, click the Keyboard tab and change the Release input command from Ctrl + Alt to something like Cmd + Alt. Then, it works properly.

I'm having this same problem with the latest (8.0.18494.886912) version of Parallels 8 on a Retina MBP.

There are, I think, two problems -- one is the key shortcut issue CaseyG mentions which is easily solved.

The other only occurs (for me) when I try to use the vSphere client to access the console of VMs that have VMware Tools installed -- which is to say, where the mouse/keyboard focus is supposed to automatically transition between the local Windows machine and the remote console. On these systems the "press ctrl+alt to release cursor" message flickers, and my mouse pointer is half the size it should be. I am unable to reliably click anything inside the VM console window.

Edit: if I change my Windows video settings in Parallels from "Best for Retina" to "Scaled," the problem appears to go away. Hardly an optimal solution, though.

In Parallels 9, the Release Input option is grayed out and it can't be modified. But found that it could be changed by adding a Keyboard Shortcut with the same name 'Release Input' for Parallels Desktop application in System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> App Shortcuts.

But I'm only able to input the control keys with a real character keys as shortcut keys. How can I type or use just control and command key for Release Input shortcut? Has anyone tried it?

Not sure if anyone still has issues here but if so, I can confirm the following:
    1. The "Release Input" option in Parallels prefs is greyed out as early as Parallels v8 - this by design and cannot be changed.
    2. Therefore, the OSX Prefs app shortcut method must be used - I have confirmed that it works and here is the procedure once again:
      1. Goto System Preferences --> Keyboard --> App Shortcuts
      2. Crete a new shortcut entry for the Parallels application
      3. IMPORTANT: Make sure the mapping name is "Release Input" - this MUST be entered exactly as the same shortcut in Parallels preferences.
      4. Choose the desired keys for the shortcut.
      5. Save and test.
    3. Also, here is Parallels KB article # 114781 describing the greyed out issue.

    Hi sir,
Did you find any other solution for the second problem? (other than changing from Best for Retina to Scaled). Because I can do nothing on Best for Retina in vsphere client
    thanks
