Like the topic says, I was using a trial version of Parallels 7 on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion last summer. I had loaded Windows 7, Quickbooks, and several other programs hoping to purchase the full version 7 but I guess I waited too long. Do I have to reinstall all the programs under Windows or will they still be installed after I upgrade to Parallels 8?

    Thanks,
    Lloyd

As long as you didn't delete the .pvm/vm files they are still there.
You can check for then on your computer under: /Users/<YourUserName>/Documents/Parallels/<NameOfTheVirtualMachine>

Thanks Kat. I didn't delete any files at all. Am I supposed to delete the Parallels v7 files before installing the v8 files?

    Hi Lloyd,

All you need to do is download the new version of Parallels or install from CD/DVD. When you install Parallels 8 it will find the older installation of Parallels, and remove it.

    Kat,

Thanks. Everything is working fine so far. I was able to use the previous virtual machine without a problem. I have one more question: When I was using v7, I set it up so that the icons on my Mac also appeared on the desktop of the Windows. How can I configure it so that the icons do NOT appear in Windows? I can't remember the setting but I can't find anything in the HELP either.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Lloyd

You most likely set it up with Sharing enabled.
Along the top near the apple icon with your vm selected but not turned on.
    go to Virtual Machine>configure>Options>Sharing

If you have Shared Profile checked: uncheck
If you have SmartMount checked: uncheck

    closed the window.
    Start you vm
This should take care of the mac icon on your windows machine. ;)
