Brand new 27" iMac as of Friday with fresh installation of Parallels 6. Windows 7 is installed, configured and running fine. However, had a problem with the Mac that required a forceful shutdown (holding in the power button.) When it came back up and I launched Parallels, my Windows guest refused to boot with the guest BIOS stating "A disk read error occurred."

I attempted to repair the installation by booting the guest off of the Windows 7 installation CD, which then resulted in a BOOTMGR missing. All attempts at fixing this error with bcd tools failed, though I could see the C: drive, get directory listings of it etc.

As it stands right now, I am reinstalling the guest as there was not that much yet done to the Windows 7 instance. However, I would like to know what instigated the issue in the first place. I suspect it was the unexpected shutdown of the Mac, but I'm at a loss as to why that would impact the boot record of the guest OS.

Any help is appreciated - I don't want that happening again after the guest is in heavy use!
