...why does it want to contact www.parallels.com every time I launch Parallels Desktop?

    I'm using version 5.0.9220 on Mac OS X 10.6.2.

    Thanks in advance!

    Now prl_disp_service...

This is what I started this thread about:

    prl_client_app

But, just after posting here something else started to happen:

I've seen it about 3-4 times now. A new process, running as root, "prl_disp_service" is wanting to connect to download.parallels.com at random times even when Parallels.app has not been launched since a restart. "Check for Updates" is unticked in app's preferences so why would these processes be calling home? What do they do?

Anything to do with the installation of MacFuse I wonder? I'm not exactly sure what MF does in fact.

I can't find anything about these in Parallels 5 help or elsewhere on the web so it sure would be nice to get an answer from staff or someone in the know. Thanks in advance!

Could I get a reply to this question please? If you should tell your users why your application is phoning home when I have set the preferences for it not to. Especially so when the process doing it runs as ROOT!

I'm constantly reminded as I have to dismiss the Little Snitch dialogues every time I restart or launch Parallels.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi MisterE,
prl_client_app is Parallels Desktop user interface (GUI), this process in called in Activity Monitor as Parallels Desktop.
    prl_disp_service is Dispatcher service.
