I am running Parallels 9 on an iMac with Windows XP as the installed OS. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 but am having troubles finding the right/best version to install. I know that I want Professional 64bit. But, there are at least three versions:

    1. OEM. This is the cheapest but my local stores won't sell it to me unless I also buy an internal hard disc (which is useless for an iMac). They claim this is a Microsoft requirement.
    2. The 'Upgrade' version from XP.
    3. Full commercial version

I want to do a clean install in a new virtual machine, rather than retain configuration settings, etc. from my XP install.

    1. Can the upgrade version be used for a new installation or does it have to 'see' the original XP install?
    2. Can you install into more than one virtual machine? I sometimes experiment and then delete a VM and then do the final install. But, the OEM instruction say it is tied to the MAC address of the first computer you install it on.
    3. Would the commercial version be worth the extra cost in terms of opening up install options?

BTW, I was disappointed to see that the Convenience store no longer offers Windows downloads. Not sure when that got dropped, but I wish it were still available.
