hey there! i have installed parallels on my intel based macbook and wanted to install windows xp sp2, but the product key was not accepted. the vendor of the windows xp software told me this could happen because he had the program previously installed on his pc (but deleted it befor selling it). he said that that it if windows wp is installed on a pc there would be a point in the setup menu where you have the possibility to change the product key. how can i do that within parallels? thanks & regards max
Hello Max, Windows keys can be activated a limited number of times. Your key has probably been activated several times and you should ask Microsoft support for another key. We are not great specialists on Windows activation issues here in Parallels, please sorry. Best regards, Xenos
I had a failed activation click through so then you get into a dialogue sequence online with telephone numbers I phoned and told them it was the same machine with a new mother board (ie MAC number) and got given a new code over the phone don't mention VM ;-) Hugh W
thanks hugh for your commend. unfortunately i cant click through, because after the message "the product key you entered is not valid" is shown, i am not able to go further. the intallation menu stops there and won't let you go on. you can only go back. so i don't know where to get a support number from... tx max
how did you even get them (windows ativation people) on the phone. having the same problem, but always get kicked off the phone by the 'nice' automated voice just after they tell me my key is not valid. i've got two different, legally owned copies of XP with keys and a key provided by PD that don't work when entering and attempting to activate online.
