Win XP won't update on MS Windows Update page - (is it a build issue?)

I just installed Parallels 7 and installed Windows 7, and had no problem downloading all updates from Windows Update. After having some trouble with a program that would not work on that OS, I decided to delete the Win 7 VM and install Windows XP. The disk was SP2, so I proceeded to the Windows Update page and after watching the green bars move for a few moments, viewed it crash IE. I tried this a few times, then tried reinstalling Parallels Tools. Now it doesn't crash, but just gives an error. I have VMWare Fusion 3 with XP (fully updated) and opened that (on the same iMac, after closing down Parallels). Went to the Windows Update page and it worked perfectly. Is this an issue with the latest build of Parallels? I initially tried migrating the Fusion XP to Parallels, but kept getting an error (which, I believe, I saw somewhere is a known bug in the latest Parallels build). Any help is appreciated!

    No help but

I hate to say this but... me too.
parallels desktop on Lion then Mountain lion guest OS Win XP SP 2 fails to update, the usual helpful MS message "an error has occurred"
Running VMware fusion on Snow leopard and leopard with XP guest it updated fine.
My parallels XP has none of the coherence-type stuff on it.
Incidentally it always boots straight into the Administrator account, despite it being password protected and there being two other accounts with passwords on the VM and it being set to boot to a list of accounts.
I suspect the two problems are linked and are an issue from Parallels. I have never yet encountered a Win XP machine that logs you on as Admin when you press the power button.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

    Clive

Bummer - at least it's not an isolated problem and hopefully they'll get a patch out soon. Looks like I should have gone with Fusion :)

I saw that there was an update for Parallels today so I installed it - hoping it fixed the Win Update problem. It didn't, so I decided to download SP3 directly and install it. Once I did that, Win Update works fine now.
