I spent several hours making a 10 gig VM running win2k (I installed many tools, antivirus, firewall, compiler, etc). All went well until I downloaded directx sdk. I never got to install it. As soon as it finished downloading (ie, copying from a temp file to the desktop file name) the win2k machine quit and everytine I try to restart it, it just shuts down with no error message. I created a 10 gig machine and gave it 1 gig of ram. I'm running a mac mini with 2 gigs of ram. I can't figure out how to get in safe mode either. The F8 key is not recognized.

I did get it to restart once after I tried increasing the size to 15 gigs (on an external firewire 250 gig drive). I then tried to defragment the drive and win2k died again and I haven't been able to get it to run again.

How can I get this thing going?

    Thanks,
    William

I built up another win2k system. It worked fine all day yesterday. But today I start parallels / win2k and win2k just shut down half a dozen times while it says 'Applying security policy...'. One time it got as far as wanting the password, but then shut down. I applied all of the windows updates yesterday, but today it just dies.

I emailed parallels support about this two days ago but have received no response.

I did not put any firewall, antivirus, or directx in the machine this time. It just dies.

How can I tell why it's not working?

    William
