I am considering the switch from Fusion 5 to Parallels 9 rather than Fusion 6 so I am using the trial period to see if it works for me.
I do like a lot of the things Parallels 9 gives me but there's one thing I either cannot get to work.

I am running Windows 7 Home Edition as a VM which was converted from Fusion. When I am in Coherence mode I cannot get the Windows Start Menu to appear at all, either from the menu bar option, or from right-clicking the dock icon and selecting it from the menu there.
If I try this, then switch out of Coherence mode into Windowed mode and click on the Start button - the menu appears up near where the Parallels icon was in the menu bar, click it again and it appears where I'd expect above the Start button in my Windowed VM. It appears as if in Coherence the start menu is drawn but not shown on screen, it only shows up when you exit Coherence and click the proper start button.

Am I doing it correctly? Or am I misunderstanding what the Windows Start Menu option does in Coherence?
Alternatively is there a way of assigning a hot key to press and bring up the Start Menu?

    Thanks.
