    Hi everybody.

Today I tried to upgrade my VM from Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 on PD 4.0 build 3846 (3848 is not available in my language).

In the previous days I ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisory and before running the OS setup I removed the applications marked as incompatible (Virtual PC 2007, IE developer toolbar and some minor apps). At the same time I updated some other applications (such as Kaspersky Internet Security).

So I started the Windows 7 upgrade process. It worked many many hours (about 6 hours). Everything was going on fine, without errors or problems, until Windows, starting from a reboot, displayed me a screen with the following message:

The upgrade was not successful. Your previous version of Windows is being restored.
Do not restart your computer during this time.

At this point I stopped the VM and I restored the original HDD.

Googling on this problem I read about many peoples that had the same problem even if not running inside a VM.

The real issue is that Windows 7 setup does not notify the reason why the upgrade fails so, at the moment, there is no way to deep inside the problem. Moreover, during the upgrade process anything seems to goes right and the problem occurs only at the end of the upgrade process, after about 5/6 hours ...

I would like to share my experience with you and I hope someone found a solution to this issue.

    Sincerely.
    MR
