Dear Forum, I'm at a loss as to what has suddenly gone wrong with my Windows 7 virtual machines. I upgraded to Version 8 parallels some weeks ago and there no issues, then for no reason MS office, and other programs started to "not respond" i.e error "not responding". They never come out of this and will not be stopped via the task manager. If I try to reboot or shutdown the virtual machine just sticks on "logging out". I have to force a shutdown. Today I created a new virtual machine and all was well installing updates office etc.. then the same started to happen..where various app or even My computer would error with "Not Responding". I've tried re-installing parallel tools but to no avail. I noticed my network setting was set to Shared, my normal setting was default so I tried setting this to default and generated a new mac code as well. The problems still exists. Are these likely to be parallels 8 issues has anyone seen similar? I was working for a year in Parallels 7 without any issues. Is it possible to go back to version 7 to test this out? My Imac config 3.06GHZ Intel 2 Dual core - 4GB RAM Mac OS 10.6.8 and Parallels Version 8 Any help or comments would be appreciated. Regards Kevin
Hi Kevin, Please go through this article and see if it helps - http://kb.parallels.com/112091 If you face the issue again, submit a problem report from Help > Report a Problem and post the ID here.
Hi Andrew, Many thanks for your email and Kb. To be honest I've been using parallels for a few years now so I'm pretty aware of the basics in the kb. However, what I have since found is the problem appears to be related to when you install "Malwarebytes Pro version 1.70". This is the latest version of Malwarebytes. Not the free version but the Professional one. I've managed to duplicate the same issue now on two different windows 7 Virtual Systems. (32 bit). So far the only way I've managed cure the problem is by uninstalling Malwarebytes pro and this needs to be done in safe mode, then I was able to boot up both my Virtual systems fine without a problem. I'm assuming this is an issue with Malwarebytes and not Parallels becasue I was using there previous version 1.60 without a problem and this has only started occur since upgrading or installing from new to there V1.70. If anyone has seen this or has any ideas please advise, currently I'm trying to contact Malwarebytes about this. Regards kevin
Hi Andrew, As a matter of course I've Reported the problem as you suggested - The Id is 21310912 Regards kevin
Windows 7 Not responding with Malwarebytes V1.70 pro, Parallels and OS X 10.6.8 I have more information to this problem. Malwarebytes are investing this issue on there side, however, it now seems to be related to when using Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and potentially any Parallels version and not just version 8. I have now tested this issue on Parallels version 5 on a Macbook. So the problem seems to exist with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) + parallels with at least versons 5 and 8 and Malwarebytes V1.70 pro (or trial copy) where you have the filesystem and web protection activated within Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes have tested without error on 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) and Parallels 8. I would be intested to know if anyone else has seen this problem yet? Regards Kevin
Hi Kevin, Most probably Malware Bytes "bites" Parallels Tools. Try to tune it not to block any Parallels processes. Most of them start from PRL
Hi Andrew, Thanks for your post. To be honest I've only just narrowed down the issue in the past few days. It appears to be not directly related with Parallels, although the Parallels environment or tools contributes in some way. So in essense the problem is produced when you have a Mac, Parallels for Desktop with at least versions 5 or 8, Windows 7 virtual Machine, Malwarebytes versions 1.70 although V1.65.1.1000 failed as well. And the final ingredient is JungleDisk v3.16. (Cloud - File Storege product) If you don't use JungleDisk then you will not see this problem So if you have all of the above JungleDisk virtual drives will not connect or if they do windows starts to show Not Responding" error on access. Task manager does not stop processes always when this happens. If you try to shut down sometimes the error "Waiting for Prl_cc.exe ..." is shown, if you do a force stop on this process, then the Windows 7 goes into an eternal loop "Logging out" but never logs out.. I need to do a "Shut Down" from the Parallels dropdown, then stop the Virtual system. Working with Malwarebytes directly we identified that the MBAMService in services file is related, becasue we tried a 5 minute delay on starting this service and this allows JungleDisk and other Windows apps to work initially, but once this process starts then the same occurs as above. Malwarebytes gave me V1.65.1.1000 to test. This appeared to work ok but started to fail the same after a couple of reboots. I will update again once I have more information from Malwarebytes Regards Kevin
Hi Andrew, It is still sort of dragging on. I have now produced the same/very similar issue with Parallels out of the equation. So any PC/Laptop now with both Malwarebytes pro and JungleDisk installed will in this case cause JungleDisk drives to not start until Malwarebytes MBAMservice is disabled. It still remains that for Parallels users + Malwarebytes pro and JungleDisk, Not responding errors, hanging on shutdown and generally makes it an unusable environment. Sadly after repeated email exchanges, supplying crash dumps etc, Malwarebytes do not appear too interested in fixing this issue.. I can only assume this is because they don't feel JungleDisk is used enough to warrant the investigation. Please feel free to add weight to Malwarebytes, personally I've given up the idea of using Malwarebytes pro for my users and will only use the free version, which is a shame but I guess it is there loss of 15 to 20 licenses... If the situation changes I'll update this page again, but I'm not holding my breath..:-( Regards Kevin
