I've searched all over and cannot seem to find an answer to what I assume is a dumb setting somewhere. So, my apologies for being so obtuse, but here's the situation. I'm Parallels Desktop 11, Windows 10 on a non-retina Macbook Air as some background. I have Parallels Tools installed.

When I launch Windows, the window is locked in a fixed aspect ratio. So, the screen can never be much more than 50-60% of the screen. IOW, I can stretch it to fit horizontally beyond that. If I go full screen, it does that but just blocks out left and right with negative space. Note that I Can change the resolution, but only within the boundaries set above.

What am I missing here? It's driving me batty. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Mark, one reason for black bars in full screen (besides missing Parallels Tools) may be that you're manually setting display resolution in Windows that has different aspect ratio than your monitor. Normally, when you enter full-screen Parallels will adjust resolution in Windows to match the display. Please check this article to fix the issue. Thanks!

I have the same problem and configuration as Mark - Parallels Desktop 11, Windows 10 on a non-retina Macbook Air but without Parallels Tools. When I checked the display settings in Windows, only the default 1024x768 display adapter driver is installed. Is this a Windows installation issue?
